Application Creator Cannot Create a HFM Application "Error occurred while creating the application" [ID 733566.1]

 Modified 06-APR-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 9.3.1.0.00 to 9.3.1.0.00 - Release: 9.3 to 9.3
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

A user with the Application Creator role is unable to create an application.

A Native directory user is created and given the rights to create an application, then the user is removed.
If the same user is added back and given the rights to create an application, creating an application fails.

In order to reproduce the issue, do the following:

In Shared Services

  1. Create a new Native Directory user "newuser" and give the Hyperion Shared Services Global Roles of Dimension Editor and Application Creator
  2. Exit Shared Services

In Workspace

  1. Logon as "newuser"
  2. Select Create Application
  3. Fill in the dialog box appropriately, attempting to create "newapp1"
  4. Select Create. Newapp1 is successfully created
  5. Exit Workspace

In Shared Services

  1. Delete the Native Directory user "newuser"
  2. Exit Shared Services

In Shared Services

  1. Create a new Native Directory user "newuser" and gave the Hyperion Shared Services Global Roles of Dimension Editor and Application Creator (same "newuser" as before)
  2. Exit Shared Services

In Workspace

  1. Logon as "newuser"
  2. Select Create Application
  3. Fill in the dialog box appropriately, attempting to create "newapp2"
  4. Select Create. An error message is returned: "Error occurred while creating the application"

Cause

The old user "newuser" is stored as newuser@Native Directory and the newly created user "newuser" is stored as newuser@Native Directory1.

The user id is same as the old user but the CSS Identity is different.  Identities are generated randomly by CSS code in OpenLDAP

When the new user is creating the application, the old user's CSS identity (which no longer exists) is passed on to CSS instead of the new user's identity by CMS.

Solution

Apply HSS service fix 9.3.1.0.06

Detailed steps are included in the read me file of the service fix

 Modified 23-JUL-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Planning - Version: 11.1.1.2.00 and later   [Release: 11.1 and later ]
Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 11.1.1.2.00 to 11.1.1.2.00   [Release: 11.1 to 11.1]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

The "Drag and Drop" functionality to drag a dimension into a sub folder in the Enterprise Performance Management Architect Dimension Library module does not work correctly in release 11.1.1.2.   There is no error message but the action is not succesful - the dimension remains in its original place in the hierarchy.

Cause

This is a defect in 11.1.1.2 release, reported in unpublished bug 8315624

Solution

This defect is fixed in Enterprise Performance Management Architect 11.1.1.3 and later releases. All current releases of EPM systems are available through Oracle E-Delivery website.

After installing 9.3.1.3 or 11.1.1.2 it is not possible to export WDEFs to Excel using the HFM web interface.

The following message or similar may be displayed and the form may fail to export or to open in Excel.

Problems During Load
Problems came up in the following areas during load

Table

This file cannot be opened because of errors. Errors are listed in:

C:\DOCUMEN~1\FCDWFY\LOCALS~1\TEMPOR~1\Content.MSO\E428DB9.log

There are some known code issues with 9.3.1 Service Pack 3 (Patch 7457927) and the Export to Excel feature.   There are several potential causes of this message.

  1. One possible cause was found to be if any rows had a Style property e.g. for changing the background colour or font formatting of the row, then the output could not be interpreted by Excel and the above error message appeared.  This was documented in (unpublished) Oracle bug number 8234461.

  2. A second possible cause was if the web form had more than two HFM metadata dimensions defined in the various column definitions.  For example if the first column defined fixed Scenarios and Periods but the second column used fixed Periods and Custom 1 members then the output of the export could not be interpreted by Excel and the above error message appeared.   This was documented in unpublished Oracle bug number 8316451.

  3. A third possible cause was found to be those customers who had made changes to their decimal and thousand seperator preferences in File -> User Preferences -> Consolidation in the Hyperion System 9 BI+ Workspace.  If the thousand seperator was set to be an empty space, or if the thousand and decimal seperators had been set to be . (dot / period) and , (comma) respectively, which is the standard for some continental European countries, then the output of the export cannot be interpreted by Excel and the above error message may appear. The unpublished Oracle bug number for this issue is 8417749.

  4. A fourth possible cause was found to be if any of the cells in the web form were showing NOACCESS, then when the user tries to export the output cannot be intepreted by Excel and the above error message displays.   The unpublished bug number for this issue is 8576700.

From version 11.1.1.2 there has been a recurrance of Oracle bug number 8316451 as above. The unpublished Oracle bug number for this issue in this version is 8856665.

Solution

Install the latest Service Pack (SP4) for HFM 9.3.1

All of these issues should be resolved by installing HFM Service Pack 9.3.1.4 (Oracle patch 8259783) which can be found in the "Patches and Downloads" section of Metalink 3.

Service Pack 4 is an urgently recommended install for all HFM 9.3.1. customers.   To install Service Pack 4, please download the patch and apply as directed in the Readme file that comes with the patch.

OR

Install 2 Service Fixes for HFM 9.3.1. SP3

For those customers choosing to stay on HFM 9.3.1 Service Pack 3,  only two of the four issues listed above can be fixed by installing Service Fixes on HFM 9.3.1 SP3.  The other two remaining issues are only fixed in Service Pack 4.

If you wish to patch just Service Pack 3, then please carefully follow the instructions in the Readme files that come with the patches including:

  1. Stop all HFM processes and services, including (on the HFM web server), the 3 Windows Services related to Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS).   These are the IIS Admin Service, the HTTP SSL service and the World Wide Web Publishing Service.

  2. Install the Service Fix 9.3.1.3.01 patch 8251022 by copying files as indicated in the Readme file.

  3. Restart the server before applying the other Service Fix.

  4. After the server is restarted, install the Service Fix 9.3.1.3.05 Patch 8316451 by copying files as indicated in the Readme file.

  5. Restart the server once more

  6. Start the IIS services and HFM Windows service if it was previously started.

  7. Log in to the BI+ Workspace, open an HFM application, open a Web Data Entry Form and test the Export to Excel functionality once more.

For Financial Management version 11.1.1.2, install Service Fix 11.1.1.2.15

Service Fix 11.1.1.2.15 patch 8856665 is available for download. Please follow the details in the bundled Readme file for installation instructions.

Any remaining unresolved issues with Export to Excel after patches installed

Any customers still experiencing problems with Export to Excel after installing Service Pack 4 should please open a Service Request with Oracle Global Customer Support referring to this Metalink Note number.

Cannot open an FM Application from BI+ Workspace

 Modified 23-APR-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 9.2.1.0.00 to 11.1.1.3.00 - Release: 9.2 to 11.1
Microsoft Windows (32-bit)

Symptoms

 Error messages:

1. From Workspace:

"There was some communication error. Response is : http://<webserver>:19000/hfm/GlobalWorkspaceNav/bpm/modules/com/hyperion/hfm/web/appcontainer/Adf.asp"

2. From FM Win32 client:

When users try to connect to FM cluster, application names are not displayed.

Cause

FM Server is unable to access the Shared Services configuration information.

Based on the error message, the issue is related to CHFMCASSecurity.cpp and CHsxServer.cpp, as the HsxServer.exe cannot initialise CASSecurity.exe process to make an connection to Shared Services.

In the Windows Task Manager on the FM application server, only the HsxServer.exe and CASSecurity.exe Windows processes are running.

In order to get SS configuration information, FM uses the link which specify in the ConnectionInfo registry key on the FM Application Server. Should the link fail, FM will open the HsxServer.exe and CASSecurity.exe processes but it will not be able to list FM applications when users click on connect to Server/Cluster.

Solution

Verify that FM Application Server(s) can connect to SS configuration (CSS.xml) using the value of the FM Server registry key "ConnectionInfo" found in the registry key on the FM Application Server:

HEY_KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hyperion Solutions\Hyperion Financial Management\Server\Authentication.

The parameter should look like:

ConnectionInfo=http://<servername>:58080/interop/framework/getCSSCongFile

When this link is working users will be able to access the FM applications

APPLIES TO:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version 9.2.0.1.00 to 11.1.2.3.702 [Release 9.2 to 11.1]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

SYMPTOMS

Delete Invalid Records does not complete.
HsvEventLog.log contains errors like this:

<Num HEX=0x80041E80>-2147213696</Num>
<Description Src=HFM>An unknown error has occurred in the HsvDSData2 object </Description>
<Type>1</Type>
<DTime>8/18/2009 4:39:20 PM</DTime>
<Svr>...</Svr>
<File>CHsvDSData2RefInt.cpp</File>
<Line>2610</Line>
<Ver>9.2.1.0.2143</Ver>

CHANGES

This is usually observed when big changes are implemented in metadata, resulting in great numbers of records becoming invalid. It is very likely to appear after deleting an entire Scenario, for example.

CAUSE

The process heavily relies on database performance. As soon as the database cannot keep up with requests from the application, the process is aborted. There appears to be less tolerance of database failures in this particular feature of FinancialManagement.
Database performance can be slow for a number of reasons (heavy usage, bad network, bad indexes etc) which are not covered in this note.

SOLUTION

The process will completes as long as you set the SQLCommandTimeout to a high enough value, for example 240.

You can change this value on the FinancialManagement application server under Windows registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hyperion Solutions\Hyperion Financial Management\Server. Create a DWORD called SQLCommandTimeout if not there already. Reboot the application server after the change.

This value may not be optimal for day-to-day operations of Financial Management. Unless you are also experiencing other issues / errors related to slow database performance, it is recommended to revert back to the original value (or delete the parameter) after a successful run of Delete Invalid Records.

Please make sure a full backup of the registry exists.

Consolidation hangs at 99% without completing

 Modified 20-MAY-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 9.2.0.0.00 and later   [Release: 9.2 and later ]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

1) Consolidation hangs at 99% without completing

2) Error: "An unknown error has occurred in the HsvDSData2 object" in HsvEventLog.log

Cause

Bug 6546234

This issue is caused by inactive entities in the period that have locked members from [Parent] to [Contribution Total] in the Value dimension.

Solution

For the inactive entities in the period, the value dimension members [Parent] to [Contribution Total] must be Unlocked

Fixed in FM 9.3.1 release
CopyApplication reports error "ORA-00933" [ID 738742.1]

 Modified 18-JAN-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 4.1.0.0.00 to 11.1.1.1.00 - Release: 4.1 to 11.1
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Using the copy application, the following error appears in the produced logfile:

Beginning processing for table HSX_datasources
Error: failed to select existing application information from the source HSX_DATASOURCES
Error : SQL Error :ORA-00933
Error : processing aborted for table HSX_DATASOURCES ...

The UDL files pointing to the two databases work fine.

Cause

This issue can be seen when running the CopyApplication utility on a machine where the Oracle 10.2 Client is installed, copying an application from an Oracle 9.2 Database server to an Oracle 10.2 Database server.

Solution

To avoid this problem, run the CopyApplication utility from a machine where Oracle Client 9.2 is installed. It should still be able to copy the application to a target 10.2 server, and it will not produce errors when dealing with a source application running on a 9.2 database.

CSS Import or Export Operation Fails with Error: 'java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space'

 Modified 24-MAY-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 9.3.0.0.00 to 11.1.1.3.00 - Release: 9.3 to 11.1
Microsoft Windows (32-bit)

Symptoms

CSS import or export operation fails with error message similar to the one below:
'java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space'

Exception in thread "Thread-3" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Javaheap space.

Cause

The number of provisioning records to be imported or exported is too high for Java memory heap allocated for the operation.

Solution

Increase Java memory heap size for CSS import or export operations:

  1. Edit the CSSExport.bat or CSSImport.bat files for export or import of provisioning data.
  2. Increase Java memory heap size using arguments: -Xms512 -Xmx512. The modified line in the file should look like this:
    "%JAVA_HOME%\bin\java" -Xms512m -Xmx512m -cp %CLASSPATH% com.hyperion.css.exchange.CommandUtility -ef %1

  3. Save the file and try to import or export provisioning data again.

Symptoms

In an Intercompany matching report, when specifying an Account marked as Plug and requesting specific CustomX members, the specification for CustomX members is ignored and all members of CustomX that have data in the ICP intersection are displayed..

Cause

The cause of this problem has been identified and verified in an unpublished Bug 8591717. The issue was reproduced and confirmed by Development.

Solution

Apply Patch 8732026 - Service Fix 11.1.1.2.11. The readme file for the patch includes detailed information. This includes dependencies, if any, supported paths and installation instructions.

Default Calculation order during Consolidation

 Modified 18-JAN-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 1.0.0.0.00 to 11.1.1.0.00 - Release: 1.0 to 11.1
Information in this document applies to any platform.
Can the user change the way Consolidation runs, so that actual Consolidation happens first before the Calculate routine is run?

Goal

Can the user change the way Consolidation runs, so that actual Consolidation happens first before the Calculate routine is run?

Solution

The issue has to do with the inherent way HFM consolidates. When a consolidation is run, the Calculate() routine runs first. The inherent way HFM consolidates and calculates cannot be changed, but expert rule-writers might be able to produce workarounds for the most common situations.

See the "Managing Rules" chapter from the Financial Management Administrator's Guide for an in-depth explanation of the sequence in which the various routines are executed during consolidation.

 Modified 27-JUL-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 9.3.1.0.00 to 9.3.1.1.00 - Release: 9.3 to 9.3
Microsoft Windows (32-bit)

Symptoms

After clicking on a document name such as a Web Data Entry Form or Data Grid in the Browser View menu on the left hand side of the HFM Web interface (Navigation frame of the Hyperion Workspace), the document cannot be properly opened in the main HFM content frame.

However, if the user is working in "Project View" in the left hand navigation frame, the document can still be opened by clicking on it.

The document can also be opened via Navigate > Manage Documents (Document Manager) menu options.

Cause

It was discovered that this clicking and loading in Browser View fails whenever the document is located in a folder which contains a space.

This was found to be a code issue in the Web User Interface of Hyperion Financial Management 9.3.1.

The issue was logged with HFM development teams as unpublished Bug 6752751

Solution

This issue is resolved in the latest Service Packs of Hyperion System 9 Financial Management Release 9.3.1.    At time of publishing this article the latest Service Pack is 9.3.1 SP 4 (Patch 8259783)

All customers are recommended to install the latest available Service Pack of Financial Management 9.3.1.

Any customer who for some reason is not willing to install the Service Pack can also find a resolution for this issue in Service Fix 9.3.1.18 (Patch 7020295).

All patches named above can be found in the "Patches & Updates" tab of My Oracle Support

PATCH:8259783 - Hyperion Financial Management - System 9 Service Pack 9.3.1.4

 Modified 25-JUN-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 9.3.1.0.00 to 9.3.1.2.00 - Release: 9.3 to 9.3
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Users that have configured a default application start up preference in Hyperion Workspace receive error "The Specified Application Doesn't Exist" when attempting to open that Hyperion Financial Management (FM) application. When attempting to change the application start up preference, the error "Server/Cluster Is Configured Incorrectly Configured" occurs when trying to save the new cluster selection.

Cause

3 causes:

FM application has been copied from environment where the FM cluster or server names are different

FM cluster name has been changed

FM application server is off line

When an application start up preference has been set for an application and the configured server or cluster is no long available.  Attempting to change the preference fails because the old server or cluster is still being used to update the application for the new preference.

Solution

The issue is resolved by applying Oracle’s Hyperion Financial Management 9.3.1.3 service pack. To apply service pack:

  1. Down load HFM 9.3.1.3 service pack (Oracle Patch # 7457927)
  2. Review the Readme files. Note that this download also includes the 9.3.1.1 and 9.3.1.2 service pack files and these must be installed prior to installing 9.3.1.3.
  3. Apply service packs 9.3.1.1 and 9.3.1.2 if not already applied and then apply 9.3.1.3.

  6. Enter the users folder
  7. select your username (which will look like myuser@someprovider) and press F2
  8. change the section after "@" to reflect the new name, e.g. myuser@thenewprovider and press Enter
  9. restart SharedServices and Financial Management
  10. try again to create or register an application, now it should work fine.

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 4.1.0.0.00 to 11.1.1.2.00 - Release: 4.1 to 11.1
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

When attempting to launch a large Intercompany Transaction report (System Report from the Intercompany Transaction module of Oracle's Hyperion System 9 Financial Management or Oracle EPM System Fusion Edition Financial Management  (FM), if the report is too large for the current settings of the Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) web server, it may fail to be transmitted correctly and the above error message may occur.

It may be seen that by reducing the number of entities used to produce the report, or by selecting the "Suppress Details" option, the report is successfully produced.   However, a user may require the report to be produced in all expected circumstances and be looking for another solution.

Cause

The cause of the problem is the resulting report is too big to be transferred by the web server (IIS).

The response buffer size set in the FM Server & Web Config utility is limiting the size of file that can be transferred.

Solution

To resolve the issue, the Response Buffer Size (in bytes) setting of the HFM web component must be increased

Solution for Hyperion Financial Management 9.3.1 release and earlier:

this setting can be found in the FM Server & Web Configuration utility - "Web Server" tab.

To launch the this utility on the FM web servers (where IIS is installed) one should look under Start -> Programs -> Hyperion -> Financial Management -> Server and Web Configuration.

The setting must be set high enough for the size of output file the user would expect to produce. To find an exact number of bytes Google Calculator features can be used for example the Google query "20 MB to bytes" will give an answer of 20971520 bytes.    This should be entered in the Utility, and then the setting saved by clicking "Apply" and then "OK".

Solution for EPM System Fusion Edition releases:

On EPM System Fusion Edition versions of Financial Management (11.1.1.x), the web server settings are included inside the EPM Configurator configuration utility.   The EPM Configurator should be run on each web server, the Financial Management product selected from the menu and the Response Buffer Size similarly adjusted.   Follow the process to completion by clicking "Next" at each screen until a confirmation appears that the change has been successful.

Note that these changes should be made at a time when no users are connected to the FM web server on which the changes are being made. This is because on clicking "Apply" the FM web components will be re-initialised and all active web sessions will be terminated. The users will have to log in once more to the BI+ workspace and FM.

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 9.2.0.3.00 to 9.2.1.1.00 - Release: 9.2 to 9.2
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Following error occurs when changing scenario via the Member Selector in the Process Control module.

An error has occurred. Please contact your administrator.

Error Number:5
Error Description:Invalid procedure call or argument
Error Source:Microsoft VBScript runtime error
Page On which Error Occurred:/hfm/mbrsel/mbrsel.asp

Cause

This is caused by unpublished bug 7451583, when you have two scenarios with similar beginning named labels
e.g. Forecast and ForecastMonths

When the end user has access to ForecastMonths but not Forecast, or vice versa, the Process Control module will generate this error.

Solution

The issue is fixed in HFM 9.2.1.2.00,  patch 825978.  Patch 8259789 needs to be applied over 9.2.1.1.00 and needs to run on all servers in a distributed environment.

1. If needed, upgrade to 9.2.1, available on http://edelivery.oracle.com/ under the "Hyperion Performance Management and BI" Product Pack

2. If needed, apply 9.2.1.1.00, patch 7457993

3. Apply 9.2.1.2.00, patch 825978

 Modified 04-OCT-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 4.1.0.0.00 to 9.3.1.2.00 - Release: 4.1 to 9.3
Microsoft Windows (32-bit)

Symptoms

Clicking on an Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) application name in Hyperion Shared Services (HSS), you receive the error: "Registered app is not active at the moment. Please consult your system administrator."

Cause

This error is commonly caused by:

  • HSS being unable to contact the HFM web server on the URL specified when registering or creating the application.
  • The application registration information in HSS does not match the applications stored in the HFM application server database.

Solution

1. Verify connection details

HSS  must be able to contact HFM on the address provided as "Security Management URL" at creation or registration time. Make sure you can ping or browse that address from the machine where HSS is running.

2. Re-register Application

For System 9.0 (HFM 4.1.1), this procedure is unsafe, as you might lose all provisioning information when re-registering.

In HFM 9.2.0.2 and above, re-register the application with the correct details.

For System 9.3:

  1. Log on the Workspace with a user provisioned with the Provisioning Manager global role
  2. Go to Navigate >> Administer >> Classic Administration >> Consolidation administration
  3. Click Register Application and select the application in the server or cluster.
  4. Check that all fields are properly filled in the form.
Pay particular attention to the "Security Administration URL". The HSS web application will try to contact HFM on that URL; if the address is not resolvable from the HSS machine, then you will have the problem.
  5. Click Register

For System 9.2:

  1. Log on to HFM web
  2. Go to File >> Register Application and select the application in the server or cluster
  3. Check that all fields are properly filled in the form.
Pay particular attention to the "Security Administration URL". The HSS web application will try to contact HFM on that URL; if that address is not reachable from the HSS machine, then you will have the same problem.
  4. Click Register

3. Advanced troubleshooting

If on version 9.3.1 and the above procedures do not resolve the issue, you may be experiencing an issue resolved in Service Pack 1 for Shared Services 9.3.1.  Please apply patch 8677305.

Increase the amount of information logged by HSS and investigate the log file to see what the problem might be.

  1. Locate the HSSLogger.properties file under the HYPERION_HOME\SharedServices\AppServer\InstalledApps\<your webapp> (9.2 and below) or HYPERION_HOME\deployments\<your webapp>\SharedServices9\config (9.3)
  2. Locate the "Metadata Log4J" section
  3. Change the following line:
    log4j.logger.com.hyperion.eie=WARN, MODEL_MGMT_LOG_FILE
    with
    log4j.logger.com.hyperion.eie=DEBUG, MODEL_MGMT_LOG_FILE
  4. Locate the "Common Admin Log4J" section
  5. Change the following line:
    log4j.logger.com.hyperion.cas=WARN, MODEL_MGMT_LOG_FILE
    with
    log4j.logger.com.hyperion.cas=DEBUG, MODEL_MGMT_LOG_FILE
  6. Restart Shared Services, reproduce the issue
  7. Consult SharedServices_Admin.log and SharedServices_Metadata.log.
4. If Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)  is enabled in the environment, you should also review Note 597451.1

Error: 'Unable to Run Transforms on Common Schema" After an Upgrade of a Classic Application to an EPMA Application Does Not Complete

 Modified 19-MAR-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 9.3.0.1.00 to 9.3.1.4.00 - Release: 9.3 to 9.3
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Where the HFM application server has been installed on a machine that has no Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) installed, some of the Enterprise Performance Management Architect related functionality will not complete.

In particular the upgrade of a "classic" Financial Management application to an EPMA type application is not successful.

The EPMA Job Console may show messages like this

Thu Jun 28 16:19:09 CEST 2007 SIMPLEDEMO: Starting Upgrade
Thu Jun 28 16:19:10 CEST 2007 SIMPLEDEMO: Changing product

Total Errors: 1 Total Warnings: 0

and there may be visible error messages in the HsvEventLog.log file of one or more of the Financial Management application servers.   This file can usually be found in one of these two locations....

  • c:\Hyperion\Financial Management\Server Working Folder (Release 9.3.0.x and earlier)
  • c:\Hyperion\logs\hfm (in Hyperion System 9 Release 9.3.1)

Additionally a file called applicationname_Metadataxxxxxx.xml may be deposited in a temporary folder (where xxxxxx is a 6 digit numeric string) containing the message

 Interface not registered(HFM:80040155)

Cause

This is due to the issues discussed in BUG 6587974

At this time it is expected that 9.3.x.x releases will be the last releases where a workaround is necessary for this issue.

Solution

The workaround at this time is to:
1. Install Microsoft Internet Information Services on each Financial Management application server.

2. Reboot the servers and restart any necessary Oracle Hyperion System 9 services.

Please contact Technical Support if you are still having problems.

Error: "An unknown error has occurred in the HsvDSCalcStatus object" when promoting entity

 Modified 21-MAY-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 9.3.1.0.00 to 11.1.2.0.00 - Release: 9.3 to 11.1
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Users are getting "An unknown error has occurred in the HsvDSCalcStatus object" when promoting an entity using process control

Changes

The DefaultFreq property of the Scenario has been changed in the FM application's metadata

Cause

The DefaultFreq property of the Scenario has been changed in the FM application's metadata from YTD to QTD

The promotion of Process unit is based on Year/Period/Scenario/Entity POV combination and any change of property (e.g. DefCurrency for Entity or Frequency for Scenario) will result in the error.

Solution

1. Load the metadata with the prior property. e.g if the scenario DefaultFreq was changed from Periodic to MTD, make sure the metadata is loaded with property Periodic
2. In Process Management, Reject the process unit to status "Not Started"
3. Load the metadata with the new property. e.g. load the metadata with MTD as DefaultFreq property
4. Start to promote from 'Not Started' to desired level

ERROR: "Data and/or status cannot be changed because the sub-cube is locked" while running Calculate

 Modified 26-MAY-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 3.5.1.0.00 to 11.1.1.3.00 - Release: 3.5 to 11.1
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Any attempt to perform a "Calculate" action on a data cell or block of data cells results in the error message "Data and/or status cannot be changed because the sub-cube is locked"

Cause

The subcube that the user is trying to write the data or/and update status is locked.

All subcubes that the Calculate routine is trying to impact should be unlocked in order to write data and/or update the Calculation Status to OK.

Solution

1.   Make sure that any inactive entities (if the OrgByPeriod is enabled) is unlocked including in Value dimension members higher than the [Parent] value member.

OR

2- If the application rules contain an HS.ImpactStatus statement that is trying to impact a locked period, make sure that the subcube that this HS.ImpactStatus rule should update has also been unlocked.

3. Ensure that the subcube that HFM is trying to write data into is not locked.

How to Check Locked / Unlocked Status

To check which entities are locked and unlocked in each Value dimension member, it is recommended to build a Data Grid in the HFM Windows 32-bit client program, or in the HFM web interface, with Value dimensions in columns (all members from [None] to [Contribution Total]) and Entities in rows (entire hierarchy of the Entity dimension).

Set a fixed Scenario, Year, Period and valid Account and Custom 1-4 combination in the Point of View.   Change the Display Status if necessary to show the Locked/Unlocked status of the cell.   Locked cells should appear grey.   Unlocked cells should display data.

Drill around in the entities and their value members to identify locked cells and unlock them as necessary to enable the Calculate routine to be performed succesfully.

If further assistance is required...

If unable to resolve the issue, open a Call/SR with the Concentric Helpdesk/Oracle Global Customer Support.

Be sure to supply screenshots of the above grid, as well as the HsvEventLog.log file from the HFM application server and if possible an extract of the Task Audit log.

Always describe in the Service Request description exactly which Point Of View fails to calculate (Scenario, Year, Period, Entity) and when this same Point of View was last succesfully calculated, whether there have been any changes to the rules or metadata since last succesful calculation etc.

Symptoms

Error: "Exception set by '<Flow_Diagram_Name>' in '<Adapter_Instance>':  Runtime Exception: Set Logon Info failed."
HFM adapter connection fails when used in a loop

Solution

This error may occur when either Connect or Set Logon Info/Open App methods are used in a loop.  This design is commonly used in the field for runtime adapter process deployments in which the process runs indefinitely via a Windows service. The error occurs when making the 2nd pass in a loop.

To avoid this problem, do not use the Disconnect Application method after the Connect or Set Logon Info/Open App methods.  The flow will connect successfully to HFM with each loop iteration.

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 11.1.1.1.00 to 11.1.1.3.00 - Release: 11.1 to 11.1

Symptoms

"Invalid Parameter" can error when the following operations are being performed in Hyperion Smartview

- refresh/refresh all/submit data Query Designer
- refresh/refresh all/submit data Web Form
- refresh/refresh all/submit data Excel sheet HsGetText(), HsSetText() function are used

The error occurs when one of the following is true,

1) If the Web Data Entry Form name or Folder Name in HFM application contains double byte characters, the error can occur when opening the form.

2) When the Cell Text of any included cell contains double byte characters, the error can occur when the data is submitted to HFM.

3) When the metadata description of any displayed member includes double byte characters, the error can occur when the data is submitted to HFM.

Cause

This has been identified as a code issue on the provider (server) side of the HFM Smartview provider in all 11.1.1.x versions of HFM (before 11.1.2).

Specifically there is a problem with tracking the size of a stream which contains double byte characters. The problem is only reproducible when compression is enabled on the provider.

Solution

Workaround:

1. On the Financial Management web server locate the following registry key in the Windows Registry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hyperion Solutions\Hyperion Financial Management\HFMWebServiceManager\OfficeProviderEnableHTTPCompression

2. If the parameter is currently set to value 1, change the parameter to value 0.

3.  Save the change, close the Windows Registry and in Windows Services, restart the service called "Hyperion Financial Management - Web Service manager"

4.  Connect once again from Smartview client to the HFM provider and test the issue again.

Error: "Registered app is not active at the moment, please consult your system administrator" in SSL-enabled environment [ID 597451.1]

 Modified 19-OCT-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 4.1.1.0.00 to 9.3.1.4.00 - Release: 4.1 to 9.3
Microsoft Windows (32-bit)

Symptoms

In a SSL-enabled environment (where the HFM web interface is accessed with "https://..."), when clicking on an application name in HSS, the user receives an error: "Registered app is not active at the moment. Please consult your system administrator."

Changes

This issue might be triggered by enabling SSL in an environment which was previously configured and working.

Cause

HSS contacts HFM by using a web service, talking over HTTP or HTTPS depending on the Security Management URL specified when the application is created or registered.

If this background conversation is broken at the HTTP/HTTPS level, you will see errors like these in the SharedServices_Admin.log:

2007-05-11 14:28:48,484 [Thread-16] ERROR com.hyperion.cas.server.task.CASActiveContextPingerTask.run(CASActiveContextPingerTask.java:52) - IOException occured while pinging app with registered context path: https://hfmwebserver.companyname.com:443/HFM/security/: Refer log in debug mode for details

See the last paragraph of Note 737405.1 for how to turn on debug mode.

In an SSL-enabled environment, this might mean that the SharedServices process is trying to make an HTTPS request without the required SSL certificate being registered in a Java keystore. If that is the case, you should see a clear error once debug mode is on.

Solution

Find the cacerts file, which is certificate keystore responsible for the web-application process, and import the SSL certificate used by HFM webserver to this file, using the standard keytool command:

keytool -import -alias <hostname> -keystore cacerts -trustcacerts -file <certificate file name>

The location of cacerts varies depending on your configuration and on the web application server HSS was deployed with (WebLogic, WebSphere etc). Consult the documentation for your Vendor.

For auto-deployed Tomcat instances shipped with HSS from 4.1.1 to 9.3.1, the right file is one of these:
  • <HYPERION_HOME>\common\JDK\Sun\1.4.2\jre\javaws\cacerts
  • <HYPERION_HOME>\common\JDK\Sun\1.4.2\jre\lib\security\cacerts
  • <HYPERION_HOME>\common\JRE\Sun\1.4.2\javaws\cacerts
  • <HYPERION_HOME>\common\JRE\Sun\1.4.2\lib\security\cacerts
Once the certificate has been safely imported into the correct keystore, restart HSS, reproduce the issue and check that the SharedServices_Admin.log doesn't report the above error anymore.

Error: "Role Security Check failed" when Loading Journal File

 Modified 04-MAY-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 9.3.1.0.00 to 11.1.1.3.00 - Release: 9.3 to 11.1
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

An end user who is not provisioned with the "Journals Administrator" role cannot load a particular journal file.   The error message from HFM suggests that he doesn't have sufficient roles provisioned in the application.

Processing load file...
Loading journals...

The log file contains one or more errors. Please review the log file.

Log:
--------------------------------------------------
Journal load started: 17:39:01

Line: 1, Error: Role Security Check failed.
!Group=Group1

Journal load ended: 17:39:02. Elapsed time: 00:00:00

Cause

This is not a product error.. By loading this file containing a !Group=Group1 line, the user is attempting to create a new journal group and he is not provisioned with the "Journal Administrator" role.   The "Role Security Check failed" error message is by design.

Solution

1. Grant the "Journal Administrator" HFM security role to the user trying to load the file or

2. Delete the line from the journal file that tries to create a journal group and ask another administrator user to create the journal group first.   Then the original end user will be able to load the rest of the journal file without an error message.

More information about the various commands in a journal file and what they mean can be found in the "Managing Journals - Creating Journal Files" section of the HFM administrators guide documentation.

Error: "Session Expired. Please login again" when cccessing Manage Taskflows via Internet Explorer on a Windows Server

 Modified 21-MAY-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 9.2.1.1.00 to 11.1.1.1.00 - Release: 9.2 to 11.1
z*OBSOLETE: Microsoft Windows Server 2003

Symptoms

When attempting to open the "Manage Taskflows" module, the following error occurs:

ERROR
-----------------------
Session Expired. Please login again.

This may also happen if the Shared Services web server host name has been added to the Trusted Sites zone and the IE privacy settings have been set to minimal. A red eye icon may also be displayed in the status bar of the Internet Explorer browser notifying the user of blocked cookies.

Cause

Due to Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration, cookies from Shared Services may be blocked within IE. Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration will only be applied if the web browser being used is on a Windows Server platform. It does not apply to desktop or client installations of Windows

Solution

Disable the Enhanced Security security of Internet Explorer:

1. Open Control Panel, click Add or Remove Programs, then click Add/Remove Windows Components
2. Select 'Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration' and click 'Details'
3. Select the user groups to apply the enhanced security configuration (Administrators, Users or both) and click OK
4. Click Next and then Finish.
5. Restart Internet Explorer

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 4.0.0.0.00 to 9.3.1.0.00 - Release: 4.0 to 9.3
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

"User does not have All access to this security class" error message when trying to post or unpost a journal (adjustment data) in Financial Management

Cause

Depending on the roles assigned to the user for Process Management, and the current Review Level in the particular Scenario-Year-Period-Entity intersections to which the particular journal is trying to be posted / unposted, the end user may not have sufficient access rights to post / unpost that particular journal at that time.

The error message above suggests that the problems is to do with security class access, when in fact it may actually be to do with the Process Management Review Levels of the target intersection.

Solution

Therefore in order to troubleshoot the issue, the user / administrator of the HFM application should make absolutely sure that the user has ALL access to be able to alter data in all of the target cells that the journal will impact.

a) It may be discovered that either a role has been removed from the end user since he last posted a journal, so that he no longer has access to a particular review level.    Reprovisioning the user with the missing role, may resolve the issue

b) Or it may be discovered that the cells he is trying to post to have been moved up / down a review level since he last posted / unposted the journal, and so he no longer has the required access.    Promoting or rejecting the target cells to another review level, may resolve the issue.

If a reason for the error cannot be found, then when opening a Service Request, it is necessary to inform the Oracle Technical Support Engineer exactly what lines are in the journal which has the problem, and what the review level of each of those cell intersections is currently at, in addition to providing application files (per file, sec file, metadata file, memberlist file, rules file) necessary to attempt to reproduce the issue.

When upgrading to 11.1.2.4 the Journal Template Window would not open.

The ADF_FACES:60097 error message would display and the user(s) would have to log out.

The cause of this issue is due to the new feature in 11.1.2.4 for Journal Templates. The new feature is that the templates display the parent entity against the base entity that is being used.

When the templates have been migrated the Parent column is blank thus displaying an error and preventing users access.

Solution:

1. Open the template
2. Click Save and close

Doing this will automatically populate the "Parent" column and resolve the issue.

NOTE:
After correcting the "Parent" Column some times the error will persist for some users. This is because the error can also corrupt their user session. In order to resolve this simply follow the Solution to clear user sessions. The details are on a separate knowledge article.
Modified 03-NOV-2010

Symptoms

Error: "An unknown error has occurred in the HsxDSSecurity object"

Changes

Security role changes made to the SQL Login account used by Hyperion Financial Management

Cause

Security role changes made to the SQL Login account used by Hyperion Financial Management

Solution

To verify the issue, use SQL Enterprise manager

  • Locate the database and expand to see Tables

  • Review the Owner and Type columns

  • All User Type objects must be owned by the same user

  • System Type object must be Owned by dbo

  • If User Type objects are also owned by dbo then the HFM SQL login account must be a member of the System Administrator role

The above error will result when User Type objects are owned by dbo as well as a SQL Login User account and can be specific to some applications depending on when the login role changes were made.

To resolve this error, MS SQL DBA must manually change ownership of all User Type objects to either dbo or to the proper MS SQL Login account.  Please consult MS SQL Books on line for further information.

EXCEL HFM ADD-IN GENERATE THE ERROR 'FORMULA TOO LONG' WHEN UPDATING LINKS

 Modified 18-DEC-2009

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 3.5.1.0.00 to 3.5.1.0.16 - Release: 3.5 to 3.5
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Error: "Formula Too Long" when trying to update links.

Office 2000

Cause

Length of formula and path to the HFM Add-in exceeds 256 character limit for column width in Excel 2000.

You will see how Excel adds the file path for the Add-in before each Retrieve function. If the total length of the cell so formed exceeds about 250 characters, the cell cannot be edited without losing some characters from the end.

Solution

1. Try to reduce the length of the formula.
2. When opening the Excel workbook, choose Don't Update links option if prompted, and click Continue in the next prompt.

Alternatively, save the workbook locally so that the file path length is reduced, reopen it and try again.

Extended Analytic output uses field type "VARGRAPHIC" exporting to DB2, incompatible with EIS [ID 605572.1]

 Modified 18-JAN-2010

Symptoms

Run an Extended Analytics database from HFM 9.3.1 to a DB2 schema. Columns which should be created with data-type "NVARCHAR" are being created with data-type "VARGRAPHIC".

This data-type cannot be read by Essbase Integration Services, so the resulting database cannot be used by EIS to create an application.

Changes

This problem will not be seen when using SQLServer or Oracle as target database for Extended Analytics, so you might encounter it when switching to a DB2 instance.

Cause

DB2 does not have the NVARCHAR data type that supports double byte characters, so HFM has to use the VARGRAPHIC data type instead.

Solution

There are very few options for this situation, the following are simple suggestions:

  • generate the Star Schema in an Oracle instance or SQLServer instance.
  • get EIS to somehow CAST the data type from VARGRAPHIC to VARCHAR or similar.

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 9.3.1.1.00 to 11.1.1.1.00 - Release: 9.3 to 11.1
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

Is it correct that underscore character is no longer allowed in the prefix label of an Extended Analytics extract ? Is this a change in the code between 9.3.1 and 9.3.1.1 ?

Solution

Yes, this is a change in the code between 9.3.1. and 9.3.1.1.

Just as you are not allowed to use underscore character in an application name, you are also not allowed to use it in an Extended Analytics prefix.

This new limitation applies to 9.3.1.1, 11.1.1 and all subsequent releases.

Financial Reports Launched from an HFM Tasklist Do Not Preview User Point of View

 Modified 06-APR-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion BI+ - Version: 9.0.0.0.00 to 11.1.1.3.00 - Release: 9.0 to 11.1
Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 9.2.0.0.00 to 11.1.1.3.00 - Release: 9.2 to 11.1
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

You run a Financial Reporting report from a Financial Management (HFM) Tasklist.  The report runs without previewing the User Point of View (POV).

Cause

You are seeing expected behavior.  If you run a Financial Reporting report from an HFM Tasklist, the Point of View depends upon the active Point of View in the HFM Application.

Solution

To change the Point of View for the report,  you will need to change it in the HFM Data Grid or HFM Web Data Entry Form Point of View before you run the report.

The Preview User Point of View functionality is available only when you run a report from Workspace.
The Task List functionality permits saving different POV's with the originating grid or form.

Modified 03-NOV-2010

Symptoms

Getting error when selecting Manage Task Flows for specific user
Error: "HTTP Status 500"
Error: "The server encountered an internal error () that preventted it from fulfilling this request"
Error: "org.apache.jasper.JasperException at org.apache.jasper.servlet.JasperWrapper.service(JspServletWrapper.java:254"

Cause

The specific user getting this error has been provisioned twice in HUB, difference between the user entries should be upper or lower case difference in user name.  This may have resutled from the user being deleted from LDAP or MSAD and then re-added.

Solution

To resolve,  Delete both user entries from HUB then provision the user again

FinancialManagement-related menu items in Workspace don't appear in any of the following places:

  • File -> Preferences -> Consolidation

  • File -> Open -> Applications -> Consolidation

  • Navigate (the "wheel") -> Applications -> Consolidation

  • Navigate (the "wheel") -> Administer -> Consolidation Administration, plus the items "Users On Systems", "System Messages" and "Manage Servers and Applications".

Cause

Workspace does not know about the existing Financial Management instance. This is usually seen if the "Web Server Configuration" task for Foundation Workspace was run before the HFM configuration tasks.

Solution

Run the Web Server Configuration task

  1. Open the Configuration Utility from Start -> Programs -> Oracle EPM -> Foundation

  2. Complete the Financial Management configuration tasks and click Finish

  3. Restart the Configuration Utility

  4. Expand the Foundation tasks for Workspace, and select only the Web Server Configuration task

  5. Make sure that the HFM component is selected and shows the correct address and port; complete the task and Finish

  6. Stop the Foundation Workspace Web Application service

  7. Stop and restart the Foundation Workspace Agent service

  8. Restart the Foundation Workspace Web Application service

Now all the above items should appear. You can test that the basic integration is working by going to
File -> Preferences and clicking on Consolidation; if the form on the right of the pop-up window is loaded, then web integration is working.

Applications not opening

If you can see the items, but you cannot open the listed applications, there might be a problem with the registration information for that application; this is a different set of problems and is outside the scope of the article.

When attempting to make changes to any of the custom dimensions (in this case custom4) the software could simply crash.

The type of change that I was attempting to make was to create a new parent value and then move existing parents into it.

I managed to find a workaround by extracting the metadata as an ".APP" file and then make the changes there.

Oracle confirmed this is indeed a bug with the software. SR: 3-9876664321 Not sure if any of you have experienced this? EMT are currently on 11.1.2.2.307. I was able to replicate this issue with the same file on 11.1.2.2.500 and 11.1.2.3.500. The HFM application itself is fine. User are entering data, consolidating, etc with no issues.

HFM Custom Documents Do Not Open within the Same Workspace Browser Window

 Modified 18-FEB-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 9.3.1.1.00 - Release: 9.3
Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 11.1.1.0.00 - Release: 11.1
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

When you launch a "Custom Document" from an HFM tasklist (tasklists were called "workspaces" previous to HFM 9.3.1 release), the custom document opens as an attachment and takes over the whole Workspace browser window.

If you close the custom document with "X" in top corner, you are actually closing your whole Workspace session and need to log in again.

What is desired is that instead of this behaviour, the custom document should open in a sub frame within the Workspace browser window, the same way as a Data Grid or Web Data Entry Form does when you select it.

Cause

The cause of the issue is the HFM UI code in 9.3.1 and 11.1.1 releases, which treats all documents as "attachments" and does not try to render them in a subframe of the existing browser window.

Solution

This issue will be resolved in release of HFM 11.1.1 (which will be numbered 11.1.1.1)

It will also be resolved in HFM 9.3.1 Service Pack 3, or for customers still on HFM 9.3.1.1, it was resolved in Service Fix 9.3.1.1.6.

All customers are recommended to install all Service Packs as they are released by Oracle Hyperion.

Symptoms

HFM 11.1.1.1 Desktop Client crashes with error:
An unhandled win32 exception occured in HFM.exe [8120]

Changes

Microsoft SQL Server 2008 or Microsoft SQL Studio 2008 has been installed on the same machine as HFM Desktop Client.

Cause

Recently installed application (i.e. Microsoft SQL Server 2008) updated  Mfc80.dll module or the Mfc80u.dll module used by HFM from version 8.0.50727.870 to version 8.0.50727.3078.
Now when you run HFM Desktop Client, an access violation occurs in the Mfc80.dll module or in the Mfc80u.dll module and the Client crashes.

Solution

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products and service fix is provided in Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

HFM Error: "the parameter is incorrect" When Running Intercompany Matching Reports (ICP Matching Reports) After A Metadata Change

 Modified 18-NOV-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 4.0.0.0.00 to 9.3.1.0.00 - Release: 4.0 to 9.3
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

When running Intercompany Matching reports after a metadata change, user or administrator may start to observe streams of errors appearing in the System Messages and HsvEventLog.log file with summary of "The parameter is incorrect"

On examining these errors using the ErrorLogViewer.exe utility in the Consultant Utilities folder, detail such as the below may be observed

File: DSCommonMetadataI.cpp Version: 9.2.0.0.1106 Line: 1601 Error: (-2147024809)(0x80070057)(The parameter is incorrect.)
File: CHsvDsAd.cpp Version: 9.2.0.0.1106 Line: 425 Error: (-2147024809)(0x80070057)(The parameter is incorrect.)
File: CHsvDSMetadataAccounts.cpp Version: 9.2.0.0.1106 Line: 43 Error: (-2147024809)(0x80070057)(The parameter is incorrect.)

Cause

Invalid records within the HFM database data tables are sometimes not correctly ignored by the Intercompany Matching functionality.

Solution

Since these are orphaned data, which can no longer be accessed by the application, it is safe to remove them.

Use the "Delete Invalid Records" functionality provided by Hyperion Financial Management to remove Invalid Records.  This can be found under "Database Management" module in both the web interface and the Windows client interface.

ALWAYS take a backup of your HFM database before running Delete Invalid Records, run the routine at a time of low system activity, and perform first just a "Scan" of the invalid records if you have concerns.  If the "Scan" does not reveal any errors about currency corruption it should be safe to run the full routine.  It may run for 30 minutes or more before completion.

After running Delete Invalid Records, if the issue is not resolved, consider loading a blank rules file, and then loading your original rules once again.  The next time that an Intercompany Matching Report is executed, there should be no further "parameter is incorrect" errors.

Purpose of this document
This document details the process to correct the review levels if the Submission Phases table is populated half way through tuning the process control.

Issue
When using Phases in Process Control and the users have managed to promote phase 3 higher than phase 2 then due the entries in "Submission Phases" the system will be stuck in a loop and will not allow the user to promote.

Solution
In order to resolve this issue the user needs to completely clear the "Submission Phases" table. Once cleared the user can proceed with correcting the phases and setting them to the correct level.

Symptom: When a user download a file from shared service and open the zipped file in file explorer, there is no file inside the folder. The folder has a size, but there is no file in the zipped folder. In case it's an LCM extract, the extract has been correctly generated on the server in the default LCM extract, but when it gets download and zipped, it's not working.

Root cause: The ZIP process includes the server path and creates subfolders for the path.

Resolution: Change the path in the EPM registry  and use the FDQN path. This resolves the issue when the file gets download the extracted.

HFM Users cannot expand Tasklists, Tasks, Documents or Favorites. Message 'Loading...' is displayed. [ID 845664.1]

 Modified 17-NOV-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 9.3.1.0.00 to 9.3.1.4.00 - Release: 9.3 to 9.3
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

In Browser View users cannot expand Tasklists, Tasks, Documents or Favorites. Message 'Loading...' is displayed.

Cause

This issue occurs only when users connect to HFM via Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server used as firewall or proxy server.

ISA HTTP filter 'Verify Normalization' blocks HFM requests encoded in URL.
When users click on different objects in HFM, web client sends back to the web server a request as URL containing string of characters including percentage sign (%) followed by a number.
These requests are blocked by ISA HTTP filter if normalization verification is enabled.

Solution

In Microsoft ISA Server Management disable "Verify Normalization" option in HTTP filter:

1. Open Microsoft ISA Server Management, expand the ISA Server computer node, and click Firewall Policy.
2. In the details pane, right-click the rule applied to scenario and select Configure HTTP.
3. From the configure HTTP Policy for rule window, select General tab.
4. Untick the option "Verify Normalization" option.
5. Click on Apply and OK.
6. Then click on Apply from main window.

After applying changes restart of IIS or HFM is not required.

HFM users cannot open application with error :Application [%0] is not contained in a Hyperion SharedServices Project. Please contact your administrator

 Modified 21-SEP-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 4.1.0.0.00 to 11.1.1.1.00 - Release: 4.1 to 11.1
Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 4.1.0.0.00 to 11.1.1.1.00   [Release: 4.1 to 11.1]
Microsoft Windows (32-bit)

Symptoms

Users are not able to open a Consolidation (Financial Management) application with the error :"Application [%0] is not contained in a Hyperion SharedServices Project. Please contact your administrator" via Win32 client and Web client.

Also when they open the application from SharedServices, they receive "Application [APP_NAME] is not contained in a Hyperion SharedServices Project. Please contact your administrator".

Cause

Some application registration information in Shared Services is lost or corrupted.

This can happen when the SharedServices relational database and OpenLDAP are not in a consistent state, resulting (for example) by restoring one of the two from backup; which is why it is recommended to always restore both at the same time, using backups taken on the same date.

The SharedServices relational database stores information related to projects and product registration. The Native Directory OpenLDAP database contains provisioning data for all products. Data inconsistencies between the two will impact standard operations as seen in the Symptoms.

Solution

The following solution applies to "Classic" Consolidation applications only.
If you are experiencing this on an application created with EPMA, contact Oracle Support.

Recommended Solution

Run the SyncOpenLDAP utility to synchronize the two repositories.

Whenever version conflicts arise during synchronization, it is the data from the relational repository that is taken as reference. This means that if a project exists in OpenLDAP but not in the relational repository, all information about it and all provisioning info WILL BE DELETED.
For such reason, it is strongly recommended that you take a backup of your OpenLDAP before proceeding. Refer to Note 763771.1 for how to do it.

To synchronize the Native Directory repository with the Shared Services database:
  1. Launch the SharedServices User Management Console, either navigating directly to http://your_hss_server:your_port/interop/ , or selecting the following menu item:

  • 11.1.1 and aboveNavigate ("the wheel") -> Administer -> SharedServices Console
  • 9.3.xNavigate -> Administer -> User Management Console
  • 9.2.x, 9.0.x and 4.0.5File -> User Management Console
  1. Select Administration -> Sync Native Directory.
  2. The Sync Native Directory tab displays the status of the synchronization operation.
    • Optional: Click Refresh to update the status.
    • Optional: Click View Log to display a log file that details the operations that were performed during the synchronization process.

Emergency solution

This procedure should be attempted only if the above technique fails. It will manually remove the registration information about the HFM Application in the relational repository.
It is strongly recommended to backup your relational repository before attempting this procedure. Note also that all provisioning information about the application will be deleted.
  1. Open Microsoft Word (version 2003 or later). This is the most common tool that can be used for this operation, but any other WebDAV-enabled tool will also work.
  2. Select File -> Open.
  3. Enter the following URL: http://your-hss-server:your-port/interop/content
The port is usually 28080 in version 11.1.1 and above, and 58080 in other versions.
  4. When challenged for user/password, use credentials for the admin account. A file repository will appear.
  5. Browse to Files->Products->HFM 9.3.1 ->Published
  6. Delete the file containing the name of the corrupted application.
  7. Browse to Files -> AdminProjects -> Applications and delete the application file from there too.
  8. Restart the Shared Services Web Application service.
  9. Perform the abovementioned Recommended Solution. This will remove any info about the application from the OpenLDAP repository as well.
  10. Re-register the application, as described in the Financial Management Administration Guide, and re-provision users.

HFM-to-Planning Data Synchronization doesn't succeed. HFM-to-HFM work ok.

 Modified 18-JAN-2010

Symptoms

HFM-to-HFM Data Synchronization jobs complete successfully. HFM-to-Planning fail.

Cause

The Source / Destination mapping for HFM to Planning doesn't include all the dimensions from the source application.

Solution

The Source / Destination mapping for HFM to Planning must have a one-to-one relationship - all dimensions from the source should be mapped to dimensions in the destination.

Review the EPM Architect Administrator Guide from the official documentation for further details.

HfmCopyApplication Utility Advanced Filter Options Cause Data Loss in Target Application

 Modified 24-FEB-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 9.2.0.0.00 to 11.1.1.3.00 - Release: 9.2 to 11.1
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Since 11.1.1.0 releases of HFM the HFMCopyApplication.exe (HFM Copy Application Utility) has included new "Advanced" options for the Copy process.

However, it has been seen that these features do not necessarily result in a good copy of the original application in the target location.

In particular enabling the features "Filter Invalid Data Records" and "Filter Zero value data Records" in some versions of the HFMCopyApplication can result in valid data missing from the target application (the result of the copy attempt).

Cause

There are some product issues in the code of the Copy Application Utility (HfmCopyApplication.exe) in some earlier releases.

Solution

Customers are reminded they should check the available Service Packs and Service Fixes for HFM product regularly and always replace the Copy Application Utility with the latest available version.

As of January 2010 the latest available Copy Application Utility can be found in HFM Service Fix 11.1.1.3.21 (Oracle  Patch 9243044) and this is the version that should be used with all installed versions of Financial Management.   The Copy Application Utility is always backwards compatible with previous versions.

The Service Fix version, and the version of the utility that will be provided in the upcoming 11.1.2 release of HFM, contain fixes to this code issue and can be used safely with these Advanced "Filter Invalid" features.
High Virtual Memory Usage By HsvDatasource.exe When Using Oracle Provider For OLE DB [ID 761418.1]

 Modified 05-OCT-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 9.2.0.0.00 to 11.1.1.0.00 - Release: 9.2 to 11.1
Oracle Provider for OLE DB - Version: 10.1.0.2 to 10.2.0.4   [Release: 10.1 to 10.2]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Virtual and private memory of the Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) application process, HsvDatasource.exe, continues to increase over time.

Cause

This issue is caused by a feature in the 10.2 and later Oracle Provider for OLE DB clients called Statement Caching and how Hyperion Financial Management uses its database connections.

Unpublished BUG 6827563 is submitted for this issue.

Solution

To resolve the high memory usage enable Statement Caching but set the configured value to a low setting, recommended value is between 1 and 10.

To implement this solution, Edit the following registry value:

Key:  Hkey_Local_Machine\Software\Oracle\Key_Homename\Oledb
Value Name:  StmtCacheSize
Value (decimal): 1

Where, Key_Homename refers to the appropriate Oracle home.

Stop and restart the HFM application processes.

Goal
How calculations in Web Data Entry forms work

Solution

Calculations on web forms apply to all cells. There is no way in web forms to specify which cells/subcubes should be calculated.  You can do that in grids however.

You can however have a comparing column. HFM performs a calculate for all cells in the web form.  If some of those cells are read only to a user, whether due to process management or security, the web form will try to calculate all the cells, but cannot calculate ones that are read-only for that user.  When this happens HFM simply writes an event to the log essentially saying that we tried to fulfill the request but could not fulfill all of it.  HFM will calculate the cells that the user has modify rights to and leave the other ones alone.

An Administrator in HFM has no security restriction.  Therefore, an administrator can calculate the entire form regardless of security class or process management level.  The only type of cell an administrator cannot modify is one that has been Locked.

One issue is the fact that we generate an error message when web forms try to calculate a no-input cell.  Please note that it is possible to disable the error message generation for this event.  Here are the instructions for doing so:

The file is WDEFConstants.asp in the web/hfm/data folder.   The file is actually self explaining:

How to backup HFM application for disaster recovery

 Modified 15-FEB-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 9.2.0.1.00 to 11.1.1.3.00 - Release: 9.2 to 11.1
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

To describe how to backup the HFM database for Disaster Recovery.

Solution

There is no single, detailed white paper document on disaster recovery because each method is different and customer specific; however; there are general procedures and guidelines that are recommended.

1. To preserve application integrity, perform standard backup and restoration procedures as dictated by the RDBMS vendor. The database files should be backed up according to standard RDBMS procedures. Once the database is up, you would need to update the UDL file to point to the new database with a user who has access to the database. Please assure that you are backing up the entire database to a file or other media, NOT just the tables.

2. Information can be found in the HFM Install guide; within the section called, "Backing Up Database Information"; which includes a table that lists the various backup and restore tasks.

3. You can also make back-up copies of the application. To make backup copies of applications, extract and save application files. For instructions on extracting files, see the Hyperion Financial Management Administrators Guide http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12825_01/nav/portal_5.htm .

Extract and save these application file types to the Temp directory on the application server:
Security files (*.sec)
Metadata files (*.xml or *.app)
Member Lists files (*.lst)
Rules files (*.rle)
Data files (*.dat) - all applicable scenarios and years with data
Journals files (*.jlf) - all applicable scenarios and years with journal data

Back up all of these files:
Data Explorer grid files (*.hde)
Web data grid files (*.xml)
Web Data Entry Form files (*.wdf or *.grd)
System Report files (*.rpt, *.xml, or *.html)

EPM Backup and Recovery guide can be found here:

http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12825_01/nav/portal_1.htm

 Modified 02-JUL-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 4.1.0.0.00 to 9.3.1.4.00 - Release: 4.1 to 9.3
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

The SharedServices_Security_Client.log file is created by all Hyperion System 9 and Oracle EPM System products and logs communication exchanges between the product and Hyperion Shared Services, for example when a user is logging on to that particular product.

By default this file is created in the "temp" folder on the Windows machine, and this is sometimes not desirable to some system administrators so default storage location for this log file can be changed.

Solution

The steps to change file location are as follows:

a) Identify the css.jar file being used by the product on the products server, typically <HYPERION_HOME>\Common\CSS\<CSS VERSION>\Lib.

b) Unzip the css.jar file into a temporary folder.

c) Edit the CSSClientLogger.properties file and uncomment (remove the # from) the line

#log4j.appender.FILE.File=c:/css.log

d) Edit the line to change the file location. If you leave it unchanged the file will be written to the root of c:\ drive with the name css.log

e) Save the CSSClientLogger.properties, and re-zip all the files into a new css.jar file.

f) Replace the css.jar file into the location of the original css.jar and restart the product

How to Determine Whether a Consolidation Issue is Caused by Non-Standard Consolidation Rules

 Modified 05-MAY-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 3.0.3.0.00 to 11.1.1.1.00 - Release: 3.0 to 11.1
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

To help the HFM administrator determine whether an HFM consolidation issue is caused by a consolidation rule.

Solution

To determine whether the consolidation issue is due to a consolidation rule or some other cause, you need to:

1. Switch from a non-standard to a standard consolidation. Refer to the Note 779133.1 - How To Enable Consolidation Rules. In this case, you need to disable consolidation rules.
2. After loading the metadata, you can test the issue.

If you can reproduce the issue with standard consolidation, then the issue is either product related or related to rules outside the Sub Consolidate() subroutine. A Service Request should be opened with Support. Otherwise, the issue is related to consolidation rules. You should first contact the person who designed the consolidation rule.

Note:
A standard consolidation is a type of consolidation driven by the application which uses the default consolidation and eliminations. A non-standard consolidation is driven by the Sub Consolidate() routine in the rule file. A non-standard consolidation is commonly used by statutory applications and is written by a qualified HFM person or HFM consultant.

How To Extract the Data Audit and Task Audit records of an HFM application to a File

 Modified 23-MAR-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 4.1.0.0.00 to 11.1.1.3.00 - Release: 4.1 to 11.1
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

Some system administrators of Financial Management desire a method to archive / extract the information from the DATA_AUDIT and TASK_AUDIT database tables of an HFM application before truncating those tables.

Solution

Oracle provides a stand alone utility called HFMAuditExtractUtilitiy.exe to accomplish this task.  As well as extracting the records of the two log tables, the utility can also be used to truncate the tables at the same time.

The utility comes with a Readme file which should be consulted for more detailed instructions on how it should be used.

The latest version of the utility which is compatible with all versions of HFM up to 11.1.1.3 is available as Service Fix 11.1.1.2.05 (Oracle Patch 8439656).

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 9.3.1.0.00 to 11.1.1.3.00 - Release: 9.3 to 11.1
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

This procedure is to be used where requested by Oracle's Hyperion Smartview development where the customer experiences difficulty installing the client component of Hyperion Smartview.

Hyperion Smartview is the software used to add features to Microsoft Office 2000, 2003 or 2007 in order to retrieve and submit data to and from the Hyperion System 9 suite or Oracle EPM Suite of products.

Solution

Oracle's Hyperion Smartview development team are sometimes required to troubleshoot installation issues.

It will help them, particularly for issues where the installation fails to complete, if an installation is performed using the following DOS command in an MS-DOS prompt.

smartview.exe /v"/l*v \"c:\logfiles\installation.log\""

The log from this command should be attached to a Service Request with Global Customer Support if requested by Smartview development.

Goal

How to make an application last longer than the number of years it was initially set for?

Solution

Applying any other solution will produce issues and the resulting application will not be supported.

The best way to extend the duration of an application is to create a new application from an updated profile and then to copy the data and the document from the original application to the new application. This is the recommended solution.

The utility included in Patch 8493825 can also add more years to an existing applications. The utility is not available to the general public (unless authorized by Oracle Support), as it has not undergone the same levels of testing as the rest of Financial Management. The resulting applications, albeit technically still supported, might produce errors or not work as expected.

How to Rename a Base Member in a classic HFM Application

 Modified 08-APR-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 1.0.0.0.00 to 11.1.1.3.00 - Release: 1.0 to 11.1
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

How can a Custom dimension base member be renamed without losing associated data?

Solution

While the Metadata Manager allows you to rename a member, HFM still considers this a new member which is distinct from the original. The renamed member will be assigned a new itemID, which essentially means that you cannot rename a member without losing the data and journals that were associated with the original member.

In order to rename a member and retain the data, you need to do the following:

1. In the application, extract all data and journals from the existing (soon to be old) member
2. Modify the extracted data and journal files so that the new member name is used instead of the old member
3. In metadata, add the new member.
4. Load the modified metadata.
5. Load the modified data and journal extract files from step 2 to populate the new member.
6. Clear the data from old member.

At this point, the old member has been essentially "renamed" to the "new" member.

To delete the old member, delete the old member from the metadata file and load it in Replace mode.

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 4.0.1.0.00 to 11.1.1.2.00 - Release: 4.0 to 11.1
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

Within the Create Journal or Edit Journal module of HFM web interface (JournalEntry.asp), some customers would like to see the description (in their default language) of the selected journal metadata members, rather than the label of those members.

When choosing a member for that line of journal detail e.g. an account or Custom1 member, the POV Selector displays both label and description of each member of the hierarchy, so it is easy to select the correct member, but when the user returns to the Journal Entry page, only the label is displayed.

Solution

This is not possible in the currently available releases of HFM.

An enhancement request (Bug 8671700) has been created for this feature.

Symptoms

In Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) application , you may receive the following error message when attempting various HFM related operations such as Cluster configuration, Journal Entries, connecting via Smartview to HFM, or with Financial Reporting:

Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion.

An error has occurred. Please contact your administrator.
Error Number:70
Error Description:Permission denied
Error Source:Microsoft VBScript runtime error
Page On which Error Occurred:/hfm/loadextract/ExtractJournals.asp

Changes

This issue occurs only in EPM systems deployed on Windows 2008 server, so if a OS upgrade had occurred, this error may be thrown.

Cause

The identity user initially logged on to the server when the application launched. The issue happens when the identity user logs off and the COM+ application can no longer read registry keys in the profile of the identity user because of a new User Profile Service functionality of forcing the unload of the user profile on Windows 2008 when the user logs off.

Solution

To resolve this issue, make the following change on all Financial Management servers in the environment:

  1. Run group policy editor (gpedit.msc)
  2. Expand to: Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System -> UserProfiles -> Do not forcefully unload the user registry at user logoff
  3. Check the settings and change it from “Not Configured” to “Enabled”
  4. Reboot the servers

Hyperion Smart Tags are Not Available In Excel, Word and Powerpoint.

 Modified 11-JAN-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 9.3.0.0.00 to 11.1.1.3.00 - Release: 9.3 to 11.1
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

The option Hyperion Smart Tags - Hyperion (Hyperion Smart View recognizer ) is not available in Excel, Word or Powerpoint under the menu Tools > AutoCorrect Options > Smart Tags tab.

Changes

Cause

The HyperionSmartTag.dll file may not have been registered when installing Smart View.  Hence, the option Hyperion Smart Tags - Hyperion (Hyperion Smart View recognizer ) is not available in Excel, Word or Powerpoint under the Smart Tags tab.

Solution

When the Hyeprion Smart Tags are not available in Word, Excel or Powerpoint, register the HyperionSmartTag.dll by following the below steps.

1. Close all Excel workbooks.
2. Go to Start > Run
3. Type Regsvr32 and then drag and drop the HyperionSmartTag.dll file from the location ~\Hyperion_home\SmartView\Bin to insert the dll with its path after the command.

Example:
regsvr32 "C:\Hyperion\SmartView\Bin\HyperionSmartTag.dll"

If there are no spaces in the directory name, you will not need the double quotes.

If done successfully, a box will display with the following message:

DllRegisterServer in C:\Hyperion\SmartView\Bin\HyperionSmartTag.dll succeeded.

If that message is not displayed, then you will need to contact your desktop support team to determine if you have the rights to register a dll on the machine.

Do NOT move the HyperionSmartTag.dll from its installed directory to the user's profile.  This will break Smart View Upgrades.

The following error (please see attachment) has been discovered after running through the upgrade from 11.1.2.1 to 11.1.2.4.

In order to resolve this please do the following:

1. Select EDIT on the Intercompany Report(s)

2. Click on Save.

3. Run the report.

After saving the report it will resolve the duplicate key error.
Intermittent “Remote Procedure Call Failed” Errors Working With Hyperion Financial Management Application

 Modified 21-SEP-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 3.5.1.0.00 to 11.1.1.1.00 - Release: 3.5 to 11.1
z*OBSOLETE: Microsoft Windows Server 2003

Symptoms

Users will intermittently see "The remote procedure call failed." errors while working with a Hyperion Financial Management application.

Cause

This issue can be caused by a firewall located between the Financial Management Web server and the Financial Management application server if the firewall is configured to reset idle connections.

Solution

To resolve these errors, decrease the TCP/IP KeepAliveTime setting on the Financial Management web and application server(s) to be slightly less than half the firewall idle connection timeout value. Example, if the firewall timeout is 20 minutes then setting the KeepAliveTime to between 5 and 10 minutes would keep the connection from being reset..

Add the following Value to the key if it does not already exist:

Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters
Value Name: KeepAliveTime
Data Type: REG_DWORD
Value (decimal): XXXX

The value of XXXX is in milliseconds, Default value is 7,200,000(two hours). This value controls how frequently TCP tries to verify that an idle connection is still intact by sending a keep-alive packet. If the remote computer is still reachable, it acknowledges the keep-alive packet. Keep-alive packets are not sent by default. New value should be less than half the firewall idle timeout.

Caution

Serious problems may occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. You should back up the registry before you modify it.

Losing Period Definition When Changing System Code In Application Settings. [ID 603449.1]

 Modified 14-SEP-2010

Created from <SR 3-359023531>

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Data Quality Management - Version: 9.3.1.0.00 - Release: 9.3
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

To resolve target periods and years when importing a new adapter.

Solution

Anytime you upgrade your adapters, when you go to Control tables, all the Target Periods and Years will be reset.  This is by design since the developer had in mind that FDM does not know what your Target periods are if you were to integrate with a different HFM application.  Therefore, as a one-time setup, we have reset all Target Periods and Years for you to setup initially.

Missing Menu Items in EPMA application - Load Rules, Load Metadata, Extract Metadata

 Modified 05-MAY-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 9.3.0.0.00 to 11.1.2.0.00 - Release: 9.3 to 11.1
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

In an EPMA application, the following menu items are missing:

Under Tasks, Load Tasks, there is no menu item for Load Rules or Load Metadata.

Under Tasks, Extract Tasks, there is no menu item for Extract Metadata.

Cause

These menu items are missing because these functions are handled differently in an EPMA application, compared with a classic HFM application.

Solution

In an EPMA application:

  1. To load rules, deploy rules from either the Application Library or Calculation Manager.
  2. To load metadata, deploy the application from the Application Library.
  3. To extract metadata, use the EPMA File Generator and the "From EPMA Application" tab.

OPatch / HPatch returns Error 73 and CreateInventory.bat does not work [ID 1082163.1]

 Modified 20-APR-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 11.1.1.0.00 to 11.1.1.3.00 - Release: 11.1 to 11.1
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

  • OPatch fails to apply patches, returning Error 73.
  • Running CreateInventory.bat will not create the %HYPERION_HOME%\inventory folder.
  • When forcing OUI repository creation (either via command line or graphical interface), the product will ask to locate the CD with label "<Value Unspecified>", and again fail to work.
  • OPatch messages are in language different from English.

Cause

This is due to an OPatch issue commonly seen whenever internationalization support (i.e. non-English language translation) is triggered in OPatch, due to a bug.

Internationalization can be triggered by running OPatch on a non-English/US version of Windows, or when the user impersonated to execute OPatch has Regional Settings set to non-English/US values.
Once that happens, most OPatch output text will be translated to a non-English language. OPatch will then lookup the value of parameter FROM_LOCATION_CD_LABEL (which is undefined in EPM / Hyperion installations) and try to use it.

Solution

  1. Comment out (adding # ) the line starting with FROM_LOCATION_CD_LABEL in %HYPERION_HOME%/common/config/oui_response.rsp, e.g. change it to:
    # FROM_LOCATION_CD_LABEL=<Value Unspecified>
  2. Set ORACLE_HOME to match HYPERION_HOME
    set ORACLE_HOME=%HYPERION_HOME%
  3. In the same command prompt window, run CreateInventory.bat
    %HYPERION_HOME%/OPatch/CreateInventory.bat
  4. Now you should be able to properly apply patches as described in their README. See referenced notes for further issues with CreateInventory and OPatch.

 Modified 04-OCT-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 4.1.0.0.00 to 9.3.1.2.00 - Release: 4.1 to 9.3 Microsoft Windows (32-bit)

  3. Change the following line:
    log4j.logger.com.hyperion.eie=WARN, MODEL_MGMT_LOG_FILE
    with
    log4j.logger.com.hyperion.eie=DEBUG, MODEL_MGMT_LOG_FILE
  4. Locate the "Common Admin Log4J" section
  5. Change the following line:
    log4j.logger.com.hyperion.cas=WARN, MODEL_MGMT_LOG_FILE
    with
    log4j.logger.com.hyperion.cas=DEBUG, MODEL_MGMT_LOG_FILE
  6. Restart Shared Services, reproduce the issue
  7. Consult SharedServices_Admin.log and SharedServices_Metadata.log.
4. If Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)  is enabled in the environment, you should also review "Error: "Registered app is not active at the moment, please consult your system administrator" in SSL-enabled environment"

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 4.1.0.0.00 to 11.1.2.0.00 - Release: 4.1 to 11.1
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

The VBScript Round() function does not round "4 down / 5 up".   At 0.5, the VBScript / Excel function rounds either up or down depending on whether the preceding figures is odd or even.  The belief is this provides a statistically "even" number of instances that round up to those that round down.

So a custom routine in rules is required if you want to use the "4 down / 5 up" rounding.

Solution

In HFM v11.1.1, we have provided a template for "Financial Rounding". For earlier versions, the client can use the following VBScript function:
Function FinancialRound(dData, iNumDecimalPlaces)

  iNumDecimalPlaces = Fix(iNumDecimalPlaces)
  If dData > 0 Then
     Multiplier = 1
  Else
     Multiplier = -1
  End If

  dTempData = dData * (10 ^ iNumDecimalPlaces)
  dTempData = dTempData + (0.5 * Multiplier)
  dTempData = Fix(dTempData)
  dTempData = dTempData / (10 ^ iNumDecimalPlaces)
  FinancialRound = dTempData

End Function

set DCOM ports required by Financial Management (HFM)

 Modified 26-MAR-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 3.5.0.0.00 to 11.1.1.2.00 - Release: 3.5 to 11.1
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

Which ports are required for DCOM communication between Financial Management components?

Solution

In order for HFM to work, port 135 needs to be open, plus the dynamic DCOM range. By default, dynamic DCOM ports are randomly chosen in a range from 1024 to 65535 (the "Internet range"). See this document from Microsoft for more details on DCOM networking.

The user can restrict the range with the following procedure:

  1. Start -> Run -> dcomcnfg
  2. expand Component Services -> Computers
  3. right-click on My Computer and select Properties
  4. select the Default Protocols tab
  5. select the protocol (usually TCP/IP) and click Properties...
  6. Add your range of ports here, removing what you don't need.
  7. The two options below the range list should be left to Internet range unless the range you need is under 1024. See this document from Microsoft for more details on this step.
  8. repeat this operation on all the machines where an HFM component is installed, including Win32 clients and Financial Reporting Studio clients, always specifying the same range.
An HFM application server will need at least as many open DCOM ports as there are applications running, plus one for the server itself (e.g. 4 applications -> 5 ports). However, specifying less than 20 ports will probably result in reliability issues and poor performance. In order to allow for effective cluster coordination, unexpected situations (broken connections etc) and long-term scalability, in most cases it is advisable to open a range of about 100 ports for a typical configuration (HFM spread among 2 or 3 machines plus a few clients, with users accessing mostly through the web interface).

Smart View Error "XML Load Error: XML Document must have a top level element"

 Modified 01-FEB-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 4.0.0.0.00 to 11.1.1.3.00 - Release: 4.0 to 11.1
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

When trying to submit data to HFM, receive error, "XML Load Error: XML Document must have a top level element" within a minute.

Changes

An upgrade from IE X to IE 7.

Cause

This is specific to IE7. The http requests are being timed out due to IE 7 lowering its timeout settings.

Solution

Smart View Refresh or Refresh All issues with IE7
Clients on IE6 that upgrade to IE7 may experience issues refreshing worksheets due to a low timeout setting.

To help troubleshoot this, the administrator can use Fiddler http://www.fiddler.com to trace the HTTP activity from the clients machine to the server. What was seen in a fiddler trace is Smart View would request data, no data would come back within 30 seconds, during which time other requests were processed. The request that had no response showed the following error:

HTTP/1.1 0 FIDDLER GENERATED - RESPONSE DATA WAS MISSING

Oracle Development discovered this to be a MicroSoft issue and recommended the following two Microsoft Knowledge base articles related to IE7.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/813827
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/181050

Important note from the above KB:

By design, Internet Explorer imposes a time-out limit for the server to return data. The time-out limit is five minutes for versions 4.0 and 4.01 and is 60 minutes for versions 5.x and 6. Also, the time-out limit is 30 seconds for Windows Internet Explorer 7. As a result, Internet Explorer does not wait endlessly for the server to come back with data when the server has a problem.

After implementing the changes recommended in the two kb articles, the issue the customer reported was resolved. In our testing we needed the registry key changed from both KB articles.

The following client side registry keys were ADDED:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings]\
"ReceiveTimeout"=dword:00dbba00
"KeepAliveTimeout"=dword:00180000
"ServerInfoTimeout"=dword:00180000

Once making the changes, it is recommended to reboot the client machine.
These registry changes are the recommended settings from Microsoft. In some cases (slower connection speeds, or using VPN) you may need to increase the KeepAliveTimeout if these settings do not work. Please consider using the latest version of fiddler (timestamps requests) to see how much time it takes for the data to come back and adjust the setting based on that time.

Symptoms

Smartview does not scale figures retrieved from FM when using formulas

Cause

The Scaling option in Hyperion (Smartview)-> Options, Display tab, only affects Adhoc Queries.

Solution

The following workaround may be used.

1. Create a sheet with a list of all the application currencies and their scaling.

(Columns C and D may be easily combined.) It is possible to derive the entity name and currency from an FM extract (see below).

2. Create a new worksheet and name it Currencies.

Create list of application currencies and their scaling factors. The easiest way to do this is to save metadata from FM as an .app file (HFM Application Format) with a comma delimiter and only Currency selected:

Load the file into Excel as a CSV file:
a) Choose Data -> Import External Data -> Import Data
b) Browse to the csv (or .app) file
c) In the first screen of the Text Import wizard, select Delimited and start importing at row  5
d) Choose Next. Select Comma, Space and Treat consecutive delimiters as one:           (N.B. if not done exactly this way trailing spaces in the first column will break the Lookup)
e) Choose Finish and import into cell A1
f) Sort the table on column A so that the currencies are in order A-Z (again, required for the Lookup function).
Note: It does not matter that this imports additional columns that we will not use.

3. In the first worksheet next to each entity, insert a column containing HsCurrency formulas

4. Insert a column containing a lookup function to return the scaling from the currency sheet that relates to the entity currency,

e.g.   =10 ^ LOOKUP($B4,Currencies!$A$2:$A$4,Currencies!$B$2:$B$4)

Note:    Both these columns may be hidden afterwards 5. Amend the HsGetValue formulas to scale by dividing by the Scale Factor.

1.5. If Smart View for Office shown disabled, select it, change the status to enabled and choose OK.
1.6. Choose Close
1.7. Close and re-open Excel

If this resolves the issue but it keeps recurring, please contact Oracle Support for assistance.

For the remaining steps in this solution, you must be logged into the PC as a local administrator and all unnecessary programs should be closed.

2. Re-install
2.1. Uninstall SmartView and check that all files (especially HsAddin.dll) are not present anywhere on the machine
2.2. Re-install

Some Entities are Incorrectly Filtered Out of Process Control List View With Filters

 Modified 18-NOV-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 9.2.0.0.00 to 9.3.1.4.00 - Release: 9.2 to 9.3
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

In Process Control, there are two modes of display. They are called Tree View and List View.

Tree View is used to display an expandable hierarchy of the entity dimension below the currently selected Top Member entity.

List View contains all the members below the current top member that are simply listed one after the other.

In List View, by clicking on the "Options" icon in the toolbar, it is possible to select Filtering on the displayed rows, for example by Review Level.

It has been seen that in some cases not all the possible entities that match the filter conditions are displayed.

for example, in a large hierarchy (many rows) of entities at different review levels, a Filter on review level "Not Started" "Only" may not return all the entities below that parent entity which are currently at Not Started state.

Cause

Another option which is available in the Options of Process Control is called "Rows Per Page".   Here the user can select a maximum grid length to be displayed at any one time.

If the List View contains more entities (more rows) than the current maximum "Rows Per Page" setting, the list is divided into Pages.   The pages can be jumped forward and backward using the up and down arrows in the icon toolbar.

However, the Filtering works on the currently displayed Page only.   So if the desired entities a user is trying to select by Filtering were not on the Page then they will not be displayed in the list.    Instead a warning message "there are no rows to be displayed" appears and the grid is empty.

Furthermore, if the grid contains no rows, the "Page Up" and "Page Down" icons do not function correctly.   Attempting to click on the "Page Down" arrow in the icon toolbar causes a Javascript error Error: 'this.m_objEditCell' is null or not an object

Solution

The workaround is to set the "Rows Per Page" setting in Process Control Options to a value larger than the entire size of entity list being displayed.  In this way all rows will be in a scrollable list on one page, and the filtering will function correctly.

Microsoft has provided the following workaround to resolve a code issue with their RPC layer by disabling bind time negotiation for security context multiplexing.

To disable bind time negotiation for security context multiplexing, you need to install hotfix Q899148 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/899148 ).

Contact Microsoft Support directly for the Hot Fix. Will need to be provided an id and password to download and follow steps below:

If running Windows 2003 SP1 you need to install above MS fix AND apply the below registry steps also to ALL HFM and Hyperion Reports/BI+ servers

If running Windows 2003 SP2 you ONLY need apply the below registry steps to ALL HFM and Hyperion Reports/BI+ servers

1. Click "Start", click "Run", type "regedit" (without the quotation marks), and then click "OK"

2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\Rpc

3. Click the "Edit" menu, point to "New", and then click "DWORD Value".

4. Type "Server2003NegotiateDisable" (without the quotation marks) as the name of the new DWORD Value

5. Right-click "Server2003NegotiateDisable", and then click "Modify".

6. In the "Value Data" box, type "1", and then click "OK". Note This setting disables the bind time negotiation and multiple transfer syntax negotiation.

7. Quit Registry Editor. Restart the Windows Server 2003-based computer.

NB If Win32 client is not being used, applying Hot Fix to the client machine is not necessary.

You can confirm that you are experiencing this permissions issue by turning on DCOM error logging. You can enable error logging by changing the registry and then restarting the DCOM process that you want to examine. The DCOM process that you want to examine determines whether you have to restart the computer. To turn on DCOM error logging, follow these steps:

Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
Locate the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Ole registry subkey.
Right-click the Ole value, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
Type ActivationFailureLoggingLevel, and then press ENTER. Double-click ActivationFailureLoggingLevel, type 1 in the Value data box, and then click OK.
Right-click the Ole value, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
Type CallFailureLoggingLevel, and then press ENTER. Double-click CallFailureLoggingLevel, type 1 in the Value data box, and then click OK.
Restart the DCOM program, and then examine the System log and the Application log for DCOM errors.

The Post Journal Role Allows Users to Post Journals that are Not Approved

 Modified 06-MAY-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 4.0.0.0.00 to 11.1.1.2.00 - Release: 4.0 to 11.1
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Journals can be in numerous status levels ranging from Working, Submitted, Approved and Posted.  Only when journals are Posted do the journals impact the stored data.

The only users who can post journals are Application Administrators, Journal Administrators and users with the Post Journals role. Any user with the Post Journals role can post a journal, whether that journal has a Working, Submitted or Approved status.

Cause

This is currently the designed behavior of HFM.

Solution

Unpublished bug 6632329 was created by Oracle Global Customer Support  such that the Post Journals role should only permit journals to be posted which are in Approved status, and that users with just the Post Journals role should not be able to approve journals. The ability to approve journals should be a separate responsibility and limited to those with the Approve Journals role.

This suggestion has been rejected.   There are no plans to change the current behavior. Any user with the Post Journals role can post a journal with a status of Working, Submitted or Approved.

Modified 13-SEP-2010     Type PROBLEM     Status PUBLISHED

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 9.3.0.0.00 to 11.1.1.3.00 - Release: 9.3 to 11.1
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

When attempting to connect to Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) using SmartView the user receives the error:
"The request timed out. Contact your administrator to increase netRetryCount and netRetryInterval."

Changes

The web browser was upgraded to Internet Explorer 7.0 or higher.

Cause

This issue occurred because of a time-out limit introduced by Microsoft in Internet Explorer 7. By default this is set to 1 minute. In previous versions it was 60 minutes.

Solution

Increase the default time-out value for persistent HTTP connections in Internet Explorer.

To change the default time-out value, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit and press Enter
  2. Locate and select the following key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\InternetSettings
  3. On the Edit menu, point to New and click DWORD Value.
  4. Type 'KeepAliveTimeout' and press Enter.
  5. On the Edit menu, click Modify.
  6. Select Decimal
  7. Enter the appropriate time-out value (in milliseconds). For example, to set the time-out value to two minutes, type 120000. For three minutes, 180000.
  8. Click OK
  9. If you use a KeepAliveTimeout value higher than 120000 (two minutes), you must create an additional registry key and set its value equal to the KeepAliveTimeout value that you want:
9.1. Repeat steps 3-8, creating DWORD value 'ServerInfoTimeout'
  10. Restart Internet Explorer.

The VALIDATED SUBACCOUNTS window is empty and does not display the intercompany accounts when clicking on a major account
A customized Intercompany subaccount table is attached to the accounts

Solution:

The INTERCOMPANY subaccount table is automatically updated when entities have the INTERCOMPANY check box selected in the ATTRIBUTES of the entity.

A customized Intercompany subaccount table does not automatically get updated. To resolve you must manually add the intercompany entities to the customized subaccount table within the ACCOUNTS module

Possible methods and potential implications of renaming an entity.

Parent Entities

- Check if you post journals
- Check if you input data at parent level
- History will be cleared and hence consolidations need to be run for all periods and years
- If there have been rule changes over the years there may be a difference in the numbers after reconsolidation

Base Entities

- Best to rename descriptions as this will keep the data intact
- If entity has to be renamed then below methods are available
- extract all data, update the entity label, load data back. In this case you will have to revalidate all your data
- create a new entity with new label, move all data, validate and then delete old entity
- convert HFM app to EPMA, update labels and convert back to classic, no impact on data

- for all the above methods ensure to check if journals are posted and unpost them and repost with new entity name

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 1.0.0.0.00 to 11.1.1.0.00 - Release: 1.0 to 11.1
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

The attached spreadsheet shows a matrix of reviewer role, process management status and the resulting impact on data access.

Solution

A review of the spreadsheet will provide information on what the expected rights to data are, based on the combination of reviewer role and process management status.

The following information is revealed:

Review users other than the review supervisor can not access data until the process is started.

Once the process is started, a user will not have access to the data until it reaches the process level which is the same as their reviewer role. For example, if a user has the role of reviewer 2, that user will not be able to make changes to the data until the process management status reaches level 2. Once it is promoted to level 3, that same user will only have Read access.

Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Metadata files extracted after schema upgrade cannot be loaded without manually editing the file to remove invalid characters for FdmAppName attribute under AppSettings. Attempting to load file results in “Unexpected error 80042F43” error.

Changes

Upgraded application from a pre-System 9 release to 11.1.1.0.00 release.

Cause

This issue is caused by an uninitialized variable in the HFM Schema Upgrade utility which is reported in an Internal defect 7596025.

Solution

This issue can be resolved by manually editing the metadata load file and removing the invalid characters in the FdmAppName attribute or remove the invalid element directly beneath the FdmAppName attribute. The file can then be loaded without producing an error.

To edit and correct this file:

  1. Open metadata file.
  2. Find the AppSettings elements.
  3. Find the FdmAppName attribute and verify the FDM application name is properly listed. If FDM is not used then the entry should be empty like <AT Name="FdmAppName"></AT>.
  4. Verify any entries after FdmAppName are valid XML attributes.

Symptoms

Updating Shared Services Registry with host name for SHARED_SERVICES_PRODUCT/LOGICAL_WEB_APP fails with error 'Multiple host components exist for host name'.

Cause

Shared Services Registry contains two components with the same host name for LOGICAL_WEB_APP. Only one of these components contains children and is linked to LOGICAL_WEB_APP.

Solution

Check if Shared Services LOGICAL_WEB_APP contains more than one component with the same host name:

1. Open command prompt and navigate to ~\Hyperion\common\config\9.5.0.0
2. Execute VIEW SHARED_SERVICES_PRODUCT/LOGICAL_WEB_APP with epmsys_registry in command prompt and write the output in flat file.

Syntax:
~:\Hyperion\common\config\9.5.0.0>epmsys_registry view SHARED_SERVICES_PRODUCT/LOGICAL_WEB_APP > filename.txt

~:\Hyperion\common\config\9.5.0.0>notepad filename.txt

Example:
C:\Hyperion\common\config\9.5.0.0>epmsys_registry view SHARED_SERVICES_PRODUCT/LOGICAL_WEB_APP > host.txt

C:\Hyperion\common\config\9.5.0.0>notepad host.txt

Check the host.txt file created in the folder for LOGICAL_WEB_APP components with the same host name.

Delete component with duplicate host name for LOGICAL_WEB_APP. This component will not contain any children components:

1. Open command prompt and navigate to ~\Hyperion\common\config\9.5.0.0
2. From file host.txt in the example above copy the ID of the HOST that you want to delete.
3. Execute epmsys_registry deletecomponent #<ID> in command prompt.

Syntax:
~\Hyperion\common\config\9.5.0.0>epmsys_registry deletecomponent #<ID>

Example:
C:\Hyperion\common\config\9.5.0.0>epmsys_registry deletecomponent #b62baa7b223eb

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 9.3.1.0.00 and later   [Release: 9.3 and later ]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

User cannot see journals in Financial Management Web while other users with the same access rights can.

However, the user can see the journals in Financial Management Windows Client.

Cause

The journals displayed depend on whether a filter is currently applied or not. The filters applied are user-specific.

The Journal filter was set to an entity different to the entity to which the journals were posted.
If an entity filter  filter is applied, then only journals posted for that entity are displayed, and other journals won't be displayed.

Solution

Remove the current filter as follows:

1. Login into the FM application via the Web client with the problematic user account.
2. From Browser view list, double click on Tasks and then Journal Tasks.
3. Select Process Journals.
4. From the main window, click on Filter button.
5. Select Filter tab and then make sure that no filter is applied.

User Receives Error In Smartview When Connecting To HFM : "Invalid Session, One possibility is that connection has timed out. Please login again" [ID 1050647.1]

 Modified 18-FEB-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 9.3.1.4.00 - Release: 9.3
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Receiving the following error when Connecting to an HFM Data source via Smart View.
Error : "Invalid Session, One possibility is that connection has timed out. Please login again."

Cause

The user attempting to connect / logon to the HFM Data Source does not have the needed HFM provisioning to connect to HFM.

Solution

Grant users the required provisioning in Shared Services to connect to the HFM application

1. Logon to Shared Services console on the following URL :

http://<Server Hostname>:28080/interop.index.jsp

2. Find The user accessing the HFM application (either Native or External)

3. Right Click>>Provision>>Choose the HFM application from the left pane.

4. Expand the HFM application to view the available roles.

5. Mark the desired roles to assign to the user and click on the " -> " button to move it to the right pane

N.B the least role to be assigned to a user is "Default" to be able to connect to the HFM application and view data.

6. Click Save.

Also please check HFM Admin guide Chapter -3  "Managing Application Security" on page 59 for further security configuration related to the HFM applications.

Hi Jodi,

OK thats great.

I shall proceed with closing the ticket.

Kind Regards
Ben

Hi Ben

Fix applied on live and can now see process control.

Thanks

Jodi

The issue is due to the corruption of journal filtering within the user POV.

Quite simply the solution is to clear the current POV for a specific user.

There are journal query and filtering settings also stored in the USERPARAMS table.

Make sure you have a backup of your HFM database, and log all users out of the application (so the application is shut down, no HsvDataSource.exe running on any app server) and then try

DELETE FROM appname_USERPARAMS WHERE PARAMETERKEY='JournalsQueryDef' AND USERNAME = 'xxxx' ;

(where xxx is the exact correct string of the user who has the problem).

After SQL / Oracle comes back with (n rows deleted) then do a "commit;"

Then log on to the application again and check if the issue is still there.

Users receive error: "The object invoked has disconnected from its clients" in Financial Management web interface [ID 823173.1]

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 3.5.1.0.15 to 11.1.1.3.00 - Release: 3.5 to 11.1
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Users are receiving "The object invoked has disconnected from its clients" errors while using Web Data Entry Forms (WDEFs), Data Grids, Process Control and other modules of the Financial Management web interface.

The Error message displayed may look something like this:

The object invoked has disconnected from its clients.
<BR>The requested object does not exist.
<BR>The object invoked has disconnected from its clients.
<BR>The requested object does not exist

Error Reference Number: {E181FB9A-C7BD-4A30-ABC9-89E042524E9F}<BR>Num: 0x80010108;Type: 1;DTime 4/12/2010 5:08:12 PM;Svr: HFMWEBSVR;File: CHFMwDataGrid_Helpers.cpp;Line: 8335;Ver: 9.3.1.0.2176;<BR>Num: 0x80010114;Type: 1;DTime: 4/12/2010 5:08:12 PM;Svr: HFMWEBSVR;File: CHFMwSession.cpp;Line: 473;Ver: 9.3.1.0.2042;<BR>Num: 0x80010108;Type: 1;DTime: 4/12/2010 5:08:12 PM;Svr: HFMWEBSVR;File: CHFMwDataGrid.cpp;Line: 9709;Ver: 9.3.1.0.2176;<BR>Num: 0x80010114;Type: 1;DTime: 4/12/2010 5:08:12 PM;Svr: HFMWEBSVR;File: CHFMwSession.cpp;Line: 473;Ver: 9.3.1.0.2042;

Cause

The exact cause of this problem has not been identified.   At this time Oracle HFM Development and Microsoft Product Support are involved in an ongoing investigation to discover the root cause.

However Microsoft have recommended that it can normally be solved by restarting the Internet Information Services (IIS) web server on all Hyperion HFM web servers in the same environment.   After this the error usually does not reappear for several months.

Solution

1. Ask all users to finish working in Hyperion Financial Management and to log out of the application.
2. On each Hyperion Financial Management web server, in Windows Services (services.msc), stop the Services related to Internet Information Services.   These are called World Wide Web Publishing Service HTTP SSL and IIS Admin Service respectively.
3. When the services have stopped, restart those same three services and wait until they are all in status "Started".
4. Ask the users to once again try to log on to Hyperion web interface and work as normal.

If the problem is not solved in this way, consider completely restarting the Windows operating system on the affected web servers (reboot the servers).

If all HFM web servers have been rebooted and the problem is still occuring, then please go ahead and create a Service Request with Oracle Global Software Support.   Be sure to include a screenshot of the error occuring in the HFM web interface including the "Show Details" extended detail, and be ready to provide further description of what activities in the user interface seem to cause the error most often.

Merlin were experienicng issues where several users over a period of time would not be able to access either Worksapce or Smart View. From a setup pooint of view, application perspective all was ok.

We noticed that the DCOM confi for "Connect and Identify" was not switched on for one of the applciation servers.

This server also assisted with the authentication.

Once switched on users were able to access the system.

Hi Wayne,

Yes I remember it was only a few users. As it was only when users would reset their passwords I just wondered if there was anyone we had specifically tested with.

You have a large user base so not the easiest.

I will close the ticket now as request. However let me know if you have any issues.

As mentioned last week the setting we switched on assists with the users credentials over the Domain.

Kind regards
Ben

Not yet on that bit. The thing was it wasn’t all users. So it would mean a large sample size. I suggest we close that ticket for the moment and we can re-open if it comes back again.

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 9.2.0.0.00 to 9.3.1.2.00   [Release: 9.2 to 9.3]
z*OBSOLETE: Microsoft Windows Server 2003

Symptoms

Folders and documented created as "private" in HFM disappear after a change in the configuration of a Shared Services Directory Provider.

Changes

The name of the Shared Services Directory Provider where the user is contained was changed.

Cause

Financial Management stores an internal pointer to users in the form username@provider_name. If the name of the provider is changed, that pointer will break

Solution

There are two ways of solving this issue.

Recreate the provider with the old name.

This is the easiest option.

  1. Log on Shared Services, either from Workspace under Navigate -> Administer -> Shared Services Console (or Authentication Configuration), or by going to http://<your-hss-server>:<your-port>/interop/
  2. Select Administration -> Manage Providers.
  3. As you cannot edit the name of an existing provider, you will have to recreate it. Click New and follow the wizard.
  4. Make sure the new provider has a higher priority than the old one (or delete the old one)
  5. Restart Shared Services and HFM

Modify the internal pointer

Make sure to take a backup of your Financial Management database before attempting this procedure.

This solution is more complex. It involves updating the database table storing the documents, pointing records to the new provider name.

The table is your-application-name_RPTS, where "your-application-name" is the name of your HFM application. The column "CreatedUser" holds the pointers you need to update.

An example SQL command which would "restore" only one folder:

update your-application-name_RPTS set CreatedUser=your_username@NEWPROVIDERNAME where label like '%Your_Folder_Name%'

Note that:

  • "your_username" is the user ID of the person experiencing the issue.
  • "NEWPROVIDERNAME" is the new provider name in SharedServices.
  • "Your_Folder_Name" is the name of one of the "lost" folders.

You can find all private folder affected by the issue by looking at the Private field in the same table; a value of -1 means the object is marked as private.

This command is only an example, you should consult with your DBA to build a better query and update all the affected records.

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 9.3.1.1.00 and later   [Release: 9.3 and later ]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

In a WDEF containing "CellText:1" in the script, the user cannot enter or display CellText after applying Patch 7308286 (HFM 9.3.1.1 Service Pack):

  • In Internet Explorer, the value is not displayed, and when you try to enter a new value you will get an error "Invalid entry" unless you use a numeric value; on submit, you will get an error.
  • In Firefox, the value is not displayed. if you enter a new one, on submit it will be hidden.

Changes

Applying HFM 9.3.1 Service Pack 1 Patch 7308286 has been seen to cause this behaviour due to an issue in the product code.

Cause

An HFM application server installed on a different machine as the HFM Web component will miss a registry key that is required by internal application changes introduced in HFM 9.3.1 Service Pack 1 Patch 7308286.

Solution

There are two different ways of solving this issue:

Recommended solution: install latest Service Pack

The best way to deal with this issue is to apply the latest available Service Pack for HFM.  This is currently HFM 9.3.1 Service Pack 4 Patch 8259783.  This will resolve the issue and introduce several additional bugfixes and improvements, including critical updates. This is the recommended course of action.

Workaround: create a blank registry key called "Web"

As a temporary measure before the installation of another Service Pack, you can implement the following workaround.

Perform the following procedure on the HFM appserver:

  1. Open the Windows Registry Editor (Start -> Run -> regedit)
  2. Expand the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hyperion Solutions\Hyperion Financial Management
  3. right-click on "Hyperion Financial Management" -> New -> Key
  4. call the new key "Web"
  5. restart the application server

However, all HFM 9.3.1 customers are reminded of the importance of installing Service Pack 4, as well as reviewing the available Service Fixes that may have been released since the Service Pack.  There are some known critical code issues that can cause metadata and application data corruption and incorrect data calculations in 9.3.1 releases before Service Pack 4.   Please review Patch 8259783 and make a strategy to install it at the soonest possible oppurtunity.

When Data Is Translated Into Another Currency, The Values In Entity Currency Adjustments Do Not Appear In The Adjustments Value For The Other Currency [ID 1061185.1]

 Modified 16-FEB-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 9.2.0.0.00 to 11.1.1.3.00 - Release: 9.2 to 11.1
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

When data is translated into another currency, the values in do not appear in the Adjustments value for the other currency. Why?

Solution

The currency hierarchy is not "mirrored" when translated, the "Adjustments" value for non-default currencies will never contain translated values from <Entity Currency Adj>; it will only ever contain adjustments explicitly posted against that currency (when it's either the default currency or the parent currency).

What will come up in the translated cells is actually reflecting Parent Total (or, when that doesn't exist, <Entity Currency Total>), rather than <Entity Currency>. So for example, if the GBP / USD rate is 2:

<Entity Currency>
10
(GBP)
<Entity Currency Adj>
-1
(GBP)
<Entity Currency Total>
9
(GBP)
USD
18
(which is <ECT> * the translation rate)
USD Adj
18

USD Total
18

This is the expected behaviour with default rules. If you want something different, you have to define custom translation rules.

Modified 15-JUL-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 1.0.0.0.00 to 11.1.2.0.00 - Release: 1.0 to 11.1
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

When entities are locked and child members in the account dimension are moved to a different parent account, the values are changed despite the data being locked.

Cause

This behavior is as designed.

Solution

A parent account is not stored in the database, but rather it is calculated “on the fly”. When a base account is moved from a parent account to another, the parent account is automatically recalculated for both base entities and parent entities. It does not matter if the entity, base or parent,  is locked. Since a parent account is not stored, it also cannot be locked.

'XML Load Error: XML Document Must Have a Top Level Element' when Connecting to an Application from SmartView.

 Modified 26-MAR-2010

Applies to:

Hyperion Financial Management - Version: 4.1.0.0.00 to 11.1.1.3.00 - Release: 4.1 to 11.1
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Following error message appears when connecting to Financial Management application from SmartView: 'XML Load Error: XML Document must have a top level element'

Cause

[None] member of Entity dimension has been assigned a security class to which the user has no access.

When first connecting to Financial Management application from Smartview, the Point of View defaults to top hierarchy members. Smartview users require at least Read access to each of these members, e.g. the [None] member of the Entity dimension.

Solution

Grant users at least Read access to security class associated with [None] member of Entity dimension.
The same applies to every dimension for which security classes may be assigned and where the UseSecurityFor...option is set in AppSettings.
